The Endtime

By Michael Roy and Scott MacGregor

When Jesus’ disciples asked Him what would be the sign of His return and the end of the world as we know it, He answered by revealing not one sign but many, including two of the five covered in this installment of The Future Foretold. The other three come from the Old Testament book of Daniel and the New Testament writings of Paul the apostle.

“Mommy, I’m Hungry!”

“And there will be famines...”1

As events unfold in the third millennium, many of us can’t help but wonder what the future holds for us and our planet. Are we on the threshold of a brave New World Order, with “peace and plenty for all”? Or are we tottering on the brink of unprecedented chaos and disaster?

Biblical prophets foretold many specifics about today’s world. Their predictions, now two to three thousand years old, accurately depict conditions and events that have either already taken place or will soon—quite possibly during our lifetime.

An allegory of coming events

The fair young princess was deeply in love. Though she’d never met her beloved face to face, the loving words he had written her from afar had won her heart and filled her life with song. She had already accepted His proposal of marriage, and in her heart she knew that she belonged to him and that one day she and the Prince of Light would live happily ever after in the wonderful place he was preparing.

The most outstanding and ominous sign of the end of the world as we know it, to which the Bible devotes numerous chapters, is the rise of a Devil-possessed tyrant known as the Antichrist, or “the Beast,” who is given authority “over every tribe, tongue, and nation” (Revelation 13:7). Is the world heading towards a global government, as this verse seems to imply?

An Interview with Joseph Candel

Activated: What do we know about the Antichrist, the future world dictator whose coming is foretold in the Bible? Is he living now and perhaps already working behind the scenes to bring about his plan for world economic and political domination?

Joseph CandelRecent developments indicate that the Antichrist’s system is already being set in place, based on technology that will allow him to achieve and enforce his near total control of the world and its people.

Just the thought of living through the traumatic era referred to in the Bible as the Great Tribulation, the “time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time” (Daniel 12:1), is enough to make most of us uneasy, to say the least. And if we didn’t have God on our side, it would be a most frightening prospect. But the fact of the matter is that if you are a believer, then you do have God on your side. Knowing that you have the biggest guy on the block on your team is comforting, even when the other side that is lined up against you looks nearly invincible. The book of Revelation calls the Antichrist “the Beast” and explains, “All the world marveled and followed the Beast, saying, ‘Who is like the Beast? Who is able to make war with him?’” (Revelation 13:3–4).

The Bible warns usthat a powerful world government will arise in the final days of man’s dominion on Earth, led by a demonic dictator—the Antichrist—who will be possessed by Satan. The last three and a half years of his rule will be a time that the Bible calls the “Great Tribulation” (Matthew 24:21; Revelation 7:14). This Antichrist government will use a universal electronic monetary system to try to cause everybody to come under the control of the Antichrist, because no one will be able to buy or sell without a personal account number, which the Bible calls the “mark of the Beast” (Revelation 13:16–18), on his hand or forehead. An image (idol) of the Antichrist will also be set up, and those who refuse to worship the image will be killed (Revelation 13:14–15).
