Loving, wholesome, wise speech has a positive effect.
Proverbs 10:11: The mouth of the righteous is a well of life.
Proverbs 12:18: The tongue of the wise promotes health.
Proverbs 15:1: A soft answer turns away wrath.
Proverbs 15:4: A wholesome tongue is a tree of life.
Proverbs 15:23: A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!
If we are living close to the Lord, our speech will show it.
Psalm 37:30: The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.
Proverbs 10:31: The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom.
Malachi 2:6: The law of truth was in his mouth, And injustice was not found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and equity, And turned many away from iniquity.
Our conversation should set a good example for others.
Philippians 1:27: Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ.
1 Timothy 4:12: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Titus 2:7–8: In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
Speak the right things at the right time.
Proverbs 10:32: The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
Proverbs 25:11: A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
Ecclesiastes 8:5: A wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment.
Speaking encouraging words will inspire and help others.
Job 4:4: Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, And you have strengthened the feeble knees.
Job 16:5: But I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the comfort of my lips would relieve your grief
Proverbs 12:25: Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
Isaiah 35:3–4: Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear!”
Isaiah 50:4: The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary.
Good conversation is based on God’s Word.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7: And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Psalm 119:172: My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.
John 6:63: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
Ephesians 5:19: Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Speak of the great things God has done.
Psalm 9:11: Declare His deeds among the people.
Psalm 35:28: And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness And of Your praise all the day long.
Psalm 66:16: Come and hear, all you who fear God, And I will declare what He has done for my soul.
Psalm 107:2: Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
Psalm 119:24: Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.
Psalm 145:4,7: One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts. 7 They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, And shall sing of Your righteousness.
Philemon 6: That the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
